The End of the Baskethouse Song-a-week Challenge

All good things must come to an end. I hereby officially declare Andy Mac to be the winner of the Baskethouse Song-a-Week Challenge. This week marks 6 months of recording a song every week, and I'm giving up. The truth is, I have a ton more songs I could put up, but I need all the time I was spending recording back.

This has been an amazing experience, and I've been truly inspired by all the amazing songs that have come from the amazing songwriters who participated. Including today, there were 185 songs recorded for the Baskethouse. 185!!!! It's really amazing, astounding actually.

But it's time to move on. I'm releasing a solo album, including some songs that were incubated on this podcast and some that weren't, that will be coming out June 1st, which I couldn't be more excited about. Also, we'll be doing weekly shows at the Bitter End again this summer. Please let me be in touch - if you want to be added to my email list, click the link under Stay Informed on the right-side of the page, or you can just shoot me an email to info@baskethouse.net

Thank you all for giving us feedback and support. Thanks to Jeff Malinowski for the theme music and to Julia Durgee for the Baskethouse logo illustration. Thanks to the Daily Purge boys for your endless plugging of the podcast. And, especially, thanks to all the songwriters who participated. You are all amazing songwriters and can look forward to spectacular careers.

It's the Baskethouse Song-a-week challenge. I'm Drew Brody. Thanks for listening

I wrote this song awhile ago with my good friend Ryan Doyle of the group More Than Me (www.MySpace.com/MoreThanMeBand). It's about as poppy as I get but I like the hook.

Over and Over Again

It's 4am and you're stuck on my mind...silently.
I rub my eyes and I let out a sigh...I can barely see.

I was thinking...if you're lonely, just spend some time with me.
Don't you know that you are such a sight for sore eyes to see?

Looking up and I'm wondering why I can't get you off my mind.
I'm rolling over, over, and over again.
All I think about is you. Do you think about me too?
Do you think me over, over, and over again and over, and over again?

Andy Mac: Week 25

Download 01new_clocks.mp3

It's my birthday today. :o) I'm very happy that I get to post THIS song on my birthday. It's a very introspective song, so it's quite fitting. Thanks so much for listening.

New Clocks

In my old room, I wouldn't fit in my old bed.
And my old dreams wouldn't fit in my new head.
I went and bought some new clocks to think of my old times.
I went and found some old words to use for my new rhymes.

Time is how you spend it. Time is who you're with.
And even though they'll tell you this, the present's not a gift.
The gift is just the memory you spend forever in.
The best of all the best of times...when we're gone that's where we'll live.

Drew Brody: Week 24

easy at all

Download easy_at_all.mp3 (function no longer available)

falling in love was the least that i could do
it was like falling off a log when i fell for you
it felt so right holding on to you
i said: i will not let you go

but now i see your eyes and they expect so much
can i soothe your cries with a tender touch

i just hope that i don't let you down

there's a boy who is scared tonight
he wasn't prepared tonight
he wasn't prepared for the fall
there's a boy who's learning
for the first time he's learning
that falling isn't easy at all
it isn't easy at all

Say No

So I saw a news report the other day where an Iraqi man was talking about how his family was killed by violence in Iraq and how 'things were better before we came'. I then a list of our soldiers who had died that day. It made me sad. It is confusing and it depresses me to see all of the suits in Washington fighting as if this were a game. To them, it is a political platform. Nothing more. Sometimes I wish some of them would fight over in Iraq for a day. I have lost friends.

Lyrics:

Gripping story of a man
who lost a fight on foreign sand
where water's scarce to be found
to wash away the blood-stained ground

It getting hard to fight a war
when you don't know who you're dying for
Since the people firing guns of hate
are the same ones you're trying to "liberate"

Say no.
